Applies to: accessory boards with male DB37 connector

I have an accessory board with a male DB37 connector for inputs. How should I connect to it?

Male (plug) DB37 connectors are used primarily for analog inputs on our input expansion boards. They are subminiature D connectors with 37 pins in two rows. They mate with female (receptacle, socket) DB37 connectors on connecting cables.

Some input expansion boards also make the DAP board's two analog output signals available on the DB37 connector.

Related Products and Pinout

  1. MSXB037 - Analog Input Expansion Board

A male DB37 connector is used on the following models, where x and y denote the version release and the package form, respectively:

    • MSXB037-x-y2K - 16 single-ended or 8 differential voltage inputs

Figures 1a and 1b show the pinout when using the signals as single-ended inputs on the male DB37 connector on the MSXB037, with the corresponding connections on the female DB37 connector on the cable.

Figures 2a and 2b show the pinout when using signals as differential inputs on the male DB37 connector on the MSXB037, with the corresponding connections on the female DB37 connector on the cable.

  2. MSXB048 - Analog Input Expansion Board with Filters

A male DB37 connector is used on the following models, where x and y denote the version release and the cutoff frequency of the analog filter, respectively:

    • MSXB048-x-y-E2K - 16 single-ended or 8 differential voltage inputs

The pinout of the male DB37 connector on the MSXB048 when using single-ended or differential inputs are the same as that for the MSXB037. They are shown in Figures 1a and 1b for single-ended inputs and 2a and 2b for differential inputs above.

  3. MSXB064/MSXB065 - Analog Input Expansion Board with Simultaneous Sampling, Signal Conditioning and Filters

A male DB37 connector is used on the following models, where x and y denote the version release and the cutoff frequency of the analog filter, respectively:

    • MSXB064-x-E2K - 8 differential simultaneous voltage inputs
    • MSXB065-x-y-E2K - 8 differential simultaneous voltage inputs with filters

Figures 3a and 3b show the pinout of the male DB37 connector when connecting differential inputs to the MSXB064 and MSXB065, with the corresponding connections on the female DB37 connector on the cable.

  4. MSXB080/MSXB081/MSXB082 - Isolated Analog Input Module with Simultaneous Sampling

A male DB37 connector is used on the following models, where x denotes version release:

    • MSXB080-x-E3K - 8 differential voltage inputs
    • MSXB081-x-E3K - 8 differential current inputs
    • MSXB082-x-E3K - 4 differential voltage inputs

Figures 4a and 4b show the pinout when connecting isolated differential inputs to the MSXB080, MSXB081, and MSXB082, with the corresponding connections on the female DB37 connector on the cable. For the MSXB082, only the pins for D0 through D3 are connected on the connector.

  5. MSXB084/MSXB085/MSXB086 - Isolated Analog Input Module

A male DB37 connector is used on the following models, where x denotes version release:

    • MSXB084-x-E3K - 16 differential voltage inputs
    • MSXB085-x-E3K - 16 differential voltage inputs and 2 outputs
    • MSXB086-x-E3K - 16 differential current inputs

It is possible to route the analog outputs from a MSXB075 or MSXB076 directly into every other channel of a MSXB084 or MSXB085 by using a gender changer.

Figures 5a and 5b show the pinout when connecting isolated differential inputs to the MSXB084, MSXB085, and MSXB086, with the corresponding connections on the female DB37 connector on the cable. For the MSXB084 and MSXB086, pins 17, 18, 36, and 37 for the two outputs are not connected on the connector.

Mating Hardware

The male DB37 connector used on the boards has part number AMP 5747843-6. It mates with the following parts from AMP / Tyco Electronics:

  • DB37 female connector body and shell - 1658660-1
  • Female crimp pins for 20-24 AWG wires - 1-66504-0

The following products from Microstar mate with the male DB37 connector:

  • MSCBL092-01K - cable kit for shielded round cable consisting of a female connector body, shell for strain relief, and pins for all contacts
  • MSCBL122-01-L30 - female-to-female DB37 cable, shielded round, 30 inches
