Cables: Connect your system

Cables Cables connect Data Acquisition Processors to Eurocards and provide connections between DAPs and between Eurocards. Cable Kits also are available for creating custom solutions. Eurocard part number suffixes contain information on connecting DAPs to Eurocards as well as on enclosure options.

For EMC-compliant systems, Microstar Laboratories Eurocards connect to a DAP through an enclosure backplane, interface, and cables. An analog backplane connects through its interface and a 68-line round, shielded cable to the DAP analog connector in the PC back panel. A digital backplane connects through its interface and a 100-line round, shielded cable to a digital connector in the PC back panel with integral digital filter board; this occupies the PC slot next to the DAP and connects through a short ribbon cable to its onboard digital connector. The short ribbon cable runs entirely within the PC enclosure, and this shields it.

This list describes the cables most commonly used with DAP boards. Most -L36 cables also come in standard lengths of 18 inches, 54 inches, and 72 inches. Daisy-chain and Custom cables are available: contact Microstar Laboratories for details of these and other options.

The CE mark indicates that the cable meets the EMC Directive 89/336/EEC.

Note: 50-line cables are used with the DAP 840. 68-line cables connect to the analog connector of a-Series DAPs. 100-line cables connect to a DAP digital port. 40-line cables and MSCBL 014 are used with older DAP models, and may be required by customers who already use those boards.

All 68-line and all current 50-line cables have the D-style connectors. All 40-line and 10-line cables have square connectors. Connectors for 100-line cables can be either square or D-style.

Connector Styles

Cables may use two styles of connectors: "square" and "D-style".

A square connector is an unshielded plastic connector that is square in shape. It fits inside the complementary DAP or Eurocard connector.

A D-style connector is metal and plastic, and fits over the complementary DAP or Eurocard connector, shielding the connection. Because of the D-style connector design, and because cables that use the D-style connector are generally shielded, Microstar Laboratories recommends these cables for EMC-Compliant systems. However, remember that ribbon cables with D-style connectors are only compliant when used in an enclosure.
